Professor of Public Policy, Brooks School of Public Policy

Cornell University

I am Professor of Government and Professor of Public Policy at Cornell University. My research and teaching interests include a variety of topics related to political and economic development in Latin America, with an emphasis on democracy, inequality, and policing. Currently, my research focuses on three main areas: 1) the militarization of law enforcement, 2) elites’ attitudes toward inequality, and 3) taxation and state capacity.

I am part of the Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy'’s leadership team, serving as Senior Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives. Previously, I served as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (interim) at the Brooks School, as Cornell’s Associate Vice Provost for International Affairs, and as Director of Cornell’s Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program.
